IRICO’s passenger coach offers a distinctive rail travel experience, meticulously designed to meet international UIC and EN standards while being fully compatible with Iran’s climatic conditions and infrastructure. This coach combines advanced safety, exceptional durability, superior comfort, and modern rail technologies to ensure safe and pleasant intercity journeys for passengers.
Capable of speeds up to 160 km/h and an axle load of 16 tonnes, the coach features an all-steel welded body constructed in compliance with EN15085 and EN12663 standards. Comprehensive glass-fiber insulation and the use of corrosion-resistant steel ensure the vehicle is lightweight, durable, and resilient over the long term. The structural service life is estimated at 30 years, with a capacity of 40 passengers accommodated in ten private four-berth compartments.
The coach is equipped with the Bombardier-developed MD523 bogie, designed for speeds up to 160 km/h and featuring a two-stage suspension system and 920 mm diameter wheels. This bogie allows for navigation through curves with a radius as tight as 80 meters and ensures stable performance across an ambient temperature range of -20°C to +50°C.
The braking system is a compressed-air type compliant with UIC standards, while the coupling and connection systems adhere to UIC520 and UIC528 standards. The carriage’s double-glazed windows are resistant to stones thrown at speeds of 200 km/h, and under-frame equipment is protected against impacts and electromagnetic interference.
To ensure passenger comfort, the carriage is equipped with a 42 kW roof-mounted air conditioning system; it maintains an internal temperature of 24°C when the ambient temperature is 50°C, while a pre-heating system raises the interior temperature to +18°C in freezing conditions of -25°C. The air ducting is constructed from insulated aluminum, and a battery-powered emergency ventilation system operates for 30 minutes. The design minimizes the ingress of dust and rain into the carriage.
The carriage’s comprehensive water supply system comprises two tanks with a total capacity of 2,000 liters (800 liters roof-mounted and 1,200 liters under-frame). Two restrooms are located at the end of the carriage: an all-stainless-steel squat toilet and a vacuum-system Western-style toilet connected to a 400-liter waste tank. The restroom floors are non-slip, the walls are constructed from FRP, and the design ensures a completely leak-proof seal.
The IP-based audio-visual system includes 19-inch displays, a Video-on-Demand (VOD) system for movies, music, and route information, individual speakers and headphone jacks for each passenger, Wi-Fi, GPS, and a central server with a minimum storage capacity of 100 GB.
The carriage features an electric entrance door, automatic gangway doors, and secure double-glazed windows. The gangway windows are openable, and both ends of the gangway are equipped with emergency hammers, safety railings, and surveillance cameras.
The private four-berth compartments feature a modern, ergonomic design. They include upper and lower bunks—with the lower bunk convertible into a daytime seat—as well as reading lights, a television, a folding table, and a lightweight aluminum ladder. Each compartment is equipped with four power outlets, a waste bin, luggage storage, curtains, and a dedicated ventilation system. The interior design creates a calm, quiet environment and complies with DIN5510 and EN45545 standards.
Advanced engineering modeling was employed in the carriage’s design to ensure optimal and safe performance of the bogies, braking system, and body structure under various operating conditions. Rigorous simulations ensure durability and a reliable, comfortable experience for passengers.
Overall, with its robust design, modern ventilation and comfort systems, and full compliance with international standards, this passenger carriage is an ideal choice for the country’s modern rail fleet, offering passengers a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable intercity travel experience.
